Simplifying Mobile Development at Scale

If you're a TELUS app user, you may have noticed that the app experience has become significantly more stable over the past several months.

While the application was already performing well, since launching React Native late last year, app crashes have decreased by 60% (that's 0.04% in-app crashes - best in class).

Although there are several factors contributing to this improvement, a major driver has been simplification across the development lifecycle.

By moving to a single codebase, our teams are now more aligned and focused in the same direction. This extends beyond engineering and into QA, where having a unified development approach has reduced complexity and improved testing efficiency.

The operational impact has also been meaningful. Faster execution cycles have enabled quicker go-to-market timelines, allowing teams to deliver improvements and new capabilities more efficiently.

Large-scale migrations are often viewed as purely technical initiatives, but in practice, the benefits go much deeper. For our team, spending less time managing inconsistencies between platforms has created more opportunities to focus on what matters most: improving the customer experience.

It's rewarding to see the results reflected not only internally through improved workflows and efficiency, but also directly in the experience customers have with the app every day.
